Schools have this month welcomed children back after Covid-19 closures across the country. The closure, followed by school holidays, enabled us to work intensively over the summer break to get premises ready to return fully in September. Having worked with the Education sector since our inception in May 2013, we are proud to provide our services to so many education providers in the north of England especially throughout this period to help children get back into education safely. Here’s one example of how we helped schools ready themselves for the return of students.
The Northern Education Trust
The Northern Education Trust has 22 schools across the north of England. JH Mechanical Services provide routine maintenance to gas appliances, mechanical equipment, commercial catering equipment, and legionella control maintenance (water system management) with responsive repairs to all NET Academies. This work involves the planned maintenance and repairs to all mechanical and plumbing plant and equipment and covers a wide scope of work; including unblocking toilets/urinals, replacing low temperature hot water heating pipes within buildings, plus larger installation works as required.
What we did
During lockdown, JH Mechanical Services fully supported the Northern Education Trust schools to help them remain open to support the children of key workers.
Working intensively over the summer to get the schools ready to return fully in September, John Heward, managing director said: “We carried out the installation of temporary external washrooms, electrically and mechanically for The Northern Education Trust following the decision to reopen the schools before the summer break. The decision to install the washrooms within the NET primary school portfolio before the schools returned was a late choice by NET. The work was turned around in a week by ourselves across 11 schools throughout the north east, as well as Bradford, Halifax and Bolton.
“We reinstated five sets of toilet areas within the Northshore Secondary Academy, Stockton in time for their reopening including the installation of 21 WCs, 14 sets of non-concussive taps and 10 toilet seats.”
Many schools saw this period as a great opportunity to fix any issues they had been experiencing, Liam McDermott, senior mechanical contracts manager said: “Following ongoing intermittent hot water issues, we installed a full new plant room during lockdown for the NET Redhouse Academy in Sunderland.”
